PANAJI:
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday said that the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has insulted two eminent Goans by not recognising their appointment as Governors.
“It is most shameful act of the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to insult two eminent Goans Padmavibhushan Late Anthony Lancelot Dias and Former Chief of Army Staff PVSM Sunith Francis Rodrigues by not recognising their appointments as Governors. Dr. Pramod Sawant must read books and learn history before making false and misleading statements,” charged Congress Media Cell Chairman Amarnath Panjikar.
Panjikar was reacting to the reference made by Chief Minister in which he had said that newly appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh Rajendra Arlekar is the first Goan to be appointed as Governor.
“Our own proud Goan Padmavibhushan Anthony Lancelot Dias was first appointed as Lieutenant Governor of Tripura from 1969 to 1971 and was later made the Governor of West Bengal from 1971 to 1977. General Sunith Francis Rodrigues served as Governor of Punjab from 2004 to 2010,” pointed Amarnath Panjikar.
He saiid that it is sad that the “Modified Bhakts” of BJP like Dr. Pramod Sawant think that India was born only in 2014 when Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India. They all must learn the books of history to know about glorious contributions of many eminent Goans in nation building.
“Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant showed his immaturity by not correcting his statement despite our Congress Functionaries pointing out to his half knowledge. This is the arrogant culture of the BJP,” stated Amarnath Panjikar.
Mahila Congress President Beena Naik, Youth Congress President Adv. Varad Mardolkar, NSUI President Naushad Chowdhari and other Congress Functionaries also slammed Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant for his misleading statement.
NSUI has offered to arrange Tution Classes for Dr. Pramod Sawant and have also urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President J P Nadda to relieve Dr. Pramod Sawant from his responsibility to facilitate his attendance to the classes.
“We strongly condemn the act of the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant of spreading lies and demand public apology from him for insulting two eminent Goans who have contributed to the welfare of the nation and made every Goan proud,” he said.
