PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Saturday appealed to private bus owners to join the Mhaji Bus Scheme, promising annual benefits of over ₹2.5 lakh along with improved technology to strengthen Goa’s public transport network. Speaking at the scheme’s launch event, he said the initiative would help ensure safer, more reliable services for commuters while supporting the transport sector.
Sawant also warned private bus operators against speeding or overtaking dangerously to pick up passengers, stressing that passenger safety must come first. He added that Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) buses could be withdrawn from certain routes if private operators committed to running regular and dependable services under the scheme. The Chief Minister called for greater cooperation from bus owners to make public transport in Goa safer, more efficient, and more sustainable.
