Panaji: Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao raised the issue of rampant noise pollution in Goa’s coastal belts, particularly in Vagator and Baga, accusing nightclubs and beach shacks of openly defying the High Court and Supreme Court orders.
Speaking in the Assembly, Alemao demanded immediate and strict government intervention, stating that the “blatant defiance” of judicial directives has continued unchecked, severely affecting the peace and well-being of local residents. He alleged that despite repeated court rulings and public outcry, the authorities have failed to curb the excessive noise during late-night parties.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, in response, assured the House that the government will take the matter seriously and issue strict directions to the concerned departments to enforce existing regulations and take action against violators.
The issue has long been a point of contention between tourism stakeholders and local communities, with courts repeatedly mandating noise limits and cut-off times. Yet, implementation remains a challenge, with reports of late-night parties and blaring music continuing to surface.
The matter is expected to be followed up with specific compliance checks and stricter monitoring of sound levels across the affected coastal zones.
