PANAJI: National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 will be used to teach students at the foundation level in this academic year. Teachers will be given copies of the framework in English, Marathi and Konkani.
However, for the inclusion of state relevant topics in the curriculum a State specific framework will be designed. The committee headed by educationist Anil Samant will be responsible for designing the State Specific framework.
The committee will submit its report in next 6 months, following which state specific content will be incorporated in the curriculum.
State government will implement National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from this academic year at foundation level i.e. initial 5 years of education for the age group from 3 years to 8 years, announced Secretary Education, Prasad Lolienkar.
“For foundation level one students the academic year will commence from July 3. The month of June will be used for preparedness,” he informed.
The education will be imparted in play method instead of books and focus on physical, cognitive, socio- emotional, moral and other overall development of the child. There will be no exams but the student will be evaluated after 5 years.
Teachers will be trained to execute the NEP curriculum. As per NEP 2020 education is divided into- foundation i.e. first 5 years, 3 years of preparatory education, 3 years of middle level and 4 years of secondary level.
The final nomenclature for various classes has not yet been decided but will be in-line with the nomenclature decided by the center, informed Lolienkar.
All Pre-primary schools will have to mandatorily get approval of Directorate of Education to operate in the state henceforth. The approval will be granted based on infrastructure, trained teachers, capacity of the institution to deliver the course content under NEP 2020 etc, informed Secretary Education Prasad Lolienkar. No per-primary school will be allowed to operate without the approval of the department after May 31, 2025 , he asserted

By 2026 all 3,000 foundation level schools including 1,500 anganwadi schools, around 1,200 private pre-primary schools and govt pre primary schools will have to switch over to NEP curriculum, he added.
