PANAJI: The safety of Goans living and working in the Gulf countries was raised as a matter of concern in the Goa Legislative Assembly on Friday, as legislators urged the government to closely monitor the situation amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao brought up the issue during Zero Hour, stating that the escalating tensions in the region have created fear and anxiety among families in Goa whose relatives are based in the Gulf. He stressed that ensuring the safety of Goans abroad should be treated as a top priority by the authorities.
Alemao urged the government to remain vigilant and take necessary steps to safeguard the interests of Goans working in the affected countries.
AAP MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas also raised concerns during the ongoing Budget session, highlighting the need for support mechanisms for Goans in the Gulf. He called for arrangements such as special flights to assist those who may wish to return home if the situation worsens.
The legislators emphasized that the government should remain prepared to respond quickly and provide assistance to Goans living overseas should the crisis escalate further.
