VASCO: In a significant step towards mitigating flooding and improving agricultural conditions, Cortalim MLA Anton Vas has initiated the desilting of drains in the Velsao fields. This project is expected to provide much-needed relief to local farmers by enhancing the drainage system and preventing waterlogging during the monsoon season.
The desilting operation, conducted with the active involvement of the Velsao-Pale Farmers Association, saw workers removing silt and debris that had accumulated over time. The effort aims to ensure the free flow of water, thereby reducing the risk of flooding in the agricultural fields.
Roquezinho D’Souza, President of the Velsao-Pale Farmers Association, emphasized the significance of this initiative. “We had recently desilted the lake with the help of MLA Anton Vas after many years. However, the fields’ drains were still a problem, leading to flooding. With this desilting work, our issues will be resolved,” he stated.
MLA Vas, who personally oversaw the operation, reiterated his commitment to supporting the local farming community. “Regular maintenance of our drainage systems is essential to prevent water stagnation and protect our farmlands. This desilting project is a crucial part of our broader efforts to improve infrastructure and support our farmers,” he said.
Local residents and farmers have expressed their gratitude for the timely intervention, hopeful that this proactive measure will significantly reduce the recurring issue of waterlogging.
The desilting of Velsao fields is part of MLA Vas’s broader agenda to enhance infrastructure and living conditions in Cortalim. Further initiatives aimed at improving water management and preventing flooding in the region are expected in the near future.
