PANJIM: It’s worrisome. The month of September is turning out to be “death trap” for covid -19 patients. On an average 7.5 people are dying daily due to the infection in Goa till now
Despite State Government’s toll claims for efforts to curb the rising deaths, 391 people have lost their lives in just 97 days. The first death was reported on June 22.
While August saw pick in number of patients dying at an daily average of 4.8, the month of September saw massive spike as 7.8 people die every day.
With 195 deaths, till Saturday, September has surpassed August total toll of 150 deaths.
Since July, Goa has seen the sharpest increase in the number of Covid-19 infections, which makes it very clear that the state is very much struggling to keep a virus under control despite several attempts made by the Health Ministry.
As per the statistics available from the Directorate of Health Service (DHS), 41 deaths were registered in July, as against the four reported in the last eight days of June month.
However, in the next month itself that is August, the death toll witnessed a significant rise to 150 and now till September 26, the death count touched at 195- mark with four more days remaining for the month to end.
The month also saw death of 12 year old patient.
The DHS has maintained that all deaths are result of co-morbid condition.
The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant as well the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane are on record to maintain that the rising number of deaths are result of negligence on part of the people, who delay in seeking medical treatment and some have co-morbid condition.
As per the latest health bulletin, the total confirmed cases are 31574, active cases stand at 5424 while the recoveries till Saturday are 25759. The total death tally is now 391.
