Panjim: Margao is set to host a lively display of sporting enthusiasm as the Margao Municipal Council prepares to conduct an inter municipal cricket tournament on February 28. The one day event will take place at the SAG Ground in Fatorda, Margao, bringing together municipal teams from across Goa for a fast paced and engaging competition.
A total of 13 teams are scheduled to participate, representing a wide cross section of civic bodies and institutions. The line up includes teams from the Margao Municipal Council, Cuncolim, Valpoi, Sanguem, Sankhali, Dicholi, Curchorem Kakoda and Ponda municipal councils. The Corporation of the City of Panaji will also field a team, alongside special teams from the Press XI and DMA JIS. The diverse participation reflects a shared commitment to fostering interaction beyond official responsibilities.
To ensure excitement and efficiency, each match will be played in a three over format. This short format is expected to keep the tempo high, encouraging aggressive play and quick decision making. The structure allows multiple matches to be completed within the day while keeping spectators engaged throughout the tournament.
In addition to trophies for the champion and runner up teams, the organisers have planned several individual awards. Players will be recognised for Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Best Fielder, along with special honours for outstanding overall performance. These awards aim to motivate participants and highlight individual excellence alongside team success.
Beyond competition, the tournament is designed as a platform for building camaraderie among municipal staff and officials from different regions of the state. By stepping onto the field together, participants are expected to strengthen mutual understanding, teamwork and a sense of unity that extends beyond administrative boundaries.
With cricket serving as the common thread, the Margao event promises not only spirited matches but also an atmosphere of cooperation and goodwill, reinforcing the role of sports as a bridge between institutions and communities.
