CANACONA: Three rooms illegally constructed by a tenant in a disputed mundkarial land and rented out to tourists at Colomb-Patnem (Canacona) in violation of CRZ notifications are demolished by Canacona administration.
Acting on the demolition orders of the GCZMA, Canacona Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar led demolition squad to carried out the demolitions of the alleged illegal structures at Bhakti-kutir, Colomb-Patnem near Palolem in Canacona. The demolitions are carried out in a two days exercise on Wednesday-Thursday.
Korgaonkar informed that following GCZMA demolition order, though 30 months period is normally allowed to remove the illegal structure (3 rooms in this case) on own, the landlord permitted more period to the mundkar to remove the structures, but since the mundkar have failed to do remove, finally, the demolition with the help of JCB began demolitions in the presence of police force on Wednesday.
According to Korgaonkar, before the actual commencement to demolish, sufficient time was allowed to the tenant to remove any valuables from the rooms, which were reportedly rented out to Tourists. As the demolition squad along-with police protection could not be completed by Wednesday evening, the demolitions operations were continued for the second day on Thursday.
The tenant’s residential house at the adjacent to which the tourist rooms were built, has however escaped the demolition sword.
Complainant landlord Pratap Gaonkar, speaking to media during demolitions informed that he is contesting a mundkarial case for the last four years, due to encroachment of his land by the mundkar. ‘GCZMA has given orders for demolitions of the illegal structures. I had given him (tenant) ample chance for settlement of mundkarial case by agreeing to give permissible/eligible land to the tenant. But he (tenant) is unwilling for any settlements. In the meantime, since the tenant went on to encroach further and construct illegal rooms to rent to tourists, I represented to the GCZMA of these illegal constructions which are in violation of CRZ notifications. So GCZMA took action and order for demolition of the illegal structures.’
