MAPUSA: Two defendants in the alleged Cunchelim land swindle were placed under 14 days of judicial custody by a Mapusa court on Thursday.
In relation to the scam, the Mapusa Police had already filed a complaint against six individuals.
Shakil Sheikh and Ramesh Rao, a Mapusa Municipality employee, were taken into custody by police late on Wednesday night.
Nobert, Ravi, Raju Mandrekar, and Raja Anthony are the other four defendants who are still at large. Police sources claim that attempts are being made to track down and capture the fugitive criminals.
The four fugitive defendants have already submitted applications for anticipatory bail, it has been disclosed. Police have promised prompt action to secure justice in the case after the Cunchelim land swindle garnered local notice.
