CUNCOLIM: A case of cyber fraud has been registered at the Cuncolim Police Station after a local resident was allegedly cheated of ₹98,000 by an unknown individual posing as a courier delivery agent.
The complainant, Abdulla Rojan Navu, a resident of Culvaddo, Cuncolim, reported that prior to June 2, 2025, an unidentified person approached him under the pretext of delivering a package. The accused, impersonating a delivery courier agent, convinced the complainant to deposit ₹5 as a confirmation fee for the delivery.
However, soon after the initial transaction failed, the complainant began noticing unauthorized deductions from his bank account. In total, ₹98,000was fraudulently withdrawn.
The fraudster allegedly used the small transaction as a ploy to gain access to the victim’s financial details.
A formal complaint was lodged, and a case has been registered. PI Diogo Gracias of Cuncolim Police Station is leading the investigation. Police officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid making online payments or sharing personal banking details unless verified.
The case serves as a reminder of the increasing use of social engineering tactics in cybercrime, where unsuspecting individuals are lured into providing sensitive financial information. The investigation is ongoing.
