CURTI: A severe windstorm has damaged the roof of the Civil Supplies Department godown in Curti, exposing the facility to heavy rainfall and raising alarm over its structural safety.
Strong winds reportedly ripped open portions of the roof, leading to significant water seepage inside the premises. With rainwater accumulating within the godown, officials have expressed concern about potential weakening of the building’s walls due to prolonged moisture exposure.
Sources within the department confirmed that essential supplies stored in the facility are now at risk, as waterlogging threatens to spoil the stock. An assessment of the damage is currently underway, and repair work is expected to begin shortly.
Authorities have been urged to relocate the stored materials to prevent further loss.
The incident has drawn criticism over the lack of timely maintenance of public infrastructure, particularly during the monsoon season.
