VASCO:Social worker and Chicalim Bio Crusaders President Cyril A Fernandes has been appointed as Vice President (South Goa) of Catholic Association of Goa (CAG) at the recent general body meeting
According to a press release by Maula Rodrigues, Joint Secretary , Rev. Dr. Simiao Purificacao Fernandes, the Auxiliary Bishop of Goa and Daman attended the Annual General Body Meeting of the Catholic Association of Goa (CAG) this week.
” The meeting took place on Sunday, 17th November, at the head office of CAG at the Maquinez Palace, Panjim. The Catholic Association of Goa acts as a body representing the Catholics of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. It is recognised by the Office of the Archbishop of Goa. It works to promote and protect the rights and interests of the members of the catholic community in Goa and was formed in the year 2000.” Said the press note
“In the later proceedings of the meeting, Mr. Cyril A. Fernandes and Graciano Gomes were appointed as Vice-Presidents of South Goa and North Goa respectively by the General Body. Joel Mendonsa and Kenneth Lobo were appointed as Youth Representatives, North Goa and South Goa respectively. Capt. Eddie Viegas and Rynus Vincents were appointed as co-opted members of the body. Maula Rodrigues was appointed as the Joint Secretary.” Said the press note .
“Addressing the general Body of the CAG members, the Auxiliary Bishop exhorted the members present to selflessly dedicate themselves to the welfare of the community of Catholics and also of the general public. He stated that we have to be the living Jesus in today’s world and live and serve the community in the best interest of the State and Country.
Capt. Eddie Viegas welcomed the Auxiliary Bishop on behalf of CAG and Pelagia Pires offered a bouquet of flowers to him. The Ecclesiastical Advisor to CAG Fr. Anthony Fernandes handed over to Most Rev. Dr. Simiao a copy of the constitution of CAG. Rynus Vincents presented a memento to the Auxiliary Bishop as a token of appreciation for gracing the AGM.Adv. Nick Colaco, President of CAG gave the welcome address and thanked the Auxiliary Bishop for taking time out of his busy schedule to attend the AGM of CAG. Barbara D’Mello read out the minutes of the previous meeting and the same were approved by the general body. Joseph Rodrigues presented the annual report of the activities of CAG with aid of a power point presentation which was received well by everyone and appreciated.
Nelson Figueredo presented the annual audit report duly certified by the auditor. ” Said the press note .
The meeting concluded with celebration of the Holy Eucharist led by Most Rev. Simiao P. Fernandes assisted by Fr Anthony Fernandes at the chapel of Our Lady of Victory within the Maquinez Palace complex.
