DABOLIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho categorically denied speculation regarding the closure of Dabolim Airport, calling it a deliberate misinformation campaign orchestrated by the opposition.
“There was a major negative propaganda by the opposition claiming that Dabolim airport would shut down. But we are witnessing heavy air traffic and maximum flight movement from Dabolim,” Godinho said while addressing media on the sidelines of an event commemorating Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.
He emphasized that ongoing infrastructure developments at the airport directly contradict the closure rumours. “Expansion works are ongoing and we may soon inaugurate new aero bridges. How can an airport undergoing expansion be planning to shut down?” he questioned.
The Minister further highlighted that Dabolim was recently recognised as the best airport among all those operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), calling it a clear endorsement of its relevance and efficiency.
“This baseless propaganda has collapsed, especially after Dabolim was declared the best AAI-operated airport in the country,” he added, slamming opposition leaders for spreading fear and confusion among the public.
Godinho reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to maintaining and upgrading Dabolim Airport even as operations at the Mopa Airport continue to grow.
