MORMUGAO: A 45-year-old man was found dead in a decomposed state inside the toilet of his residence at Rumdawada, Lower Jetty, Mormugao, after local residents noticed a foul smell coming from the house.
According to Mormugao Police, a phone call was received on 17 May 2026 at around 11:53 pm from Mormugao Councillor Damu Naik informing police about a strong foul smell emanating from the residence of Gangaram Bhagat.
Police personnel rushed to the spot and, during inquiry, found the deceased lying inside the toilet in a highly decomposed condition.
Further inquiry with the deceased’s elder brother, Shailesh Bhagat, revealed that Gangaram had been living alone following the deaths of his parents and separation from his wife.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama and referred the body to South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for postmortem examination.
