New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah stepped up the political battle in Bhabanipur, declaring that the Bharatiya Janata Party is determined to defeat Mamata Banerjee in her own stronghold.
Addressing party supporters during a campaign event, Shah said the BJP aims to challenge the West Bengal Chief Minister directly in her political bastion. He stated that winning the Bhabanipur seat would mark a turning point in the state’s politics and accelerate the momentum for political change across West Bengal.
Shah expressed confidence that the BJP will receive strong public support in the upcoming elections and form the next government in the state. He claimed that many voters are looking for an alternative leadership under Narendra Modi and are eager for change.
During his speech, the Home Minister criticised the state government, alleging that corruption has increased and that employment opportunities for young people remain limited. According to him, the current administration has failed to address these concerns, which has led to growing dissatisfaction among voters.
Shah also asserted that the political mood in the state is gradually shifting in favour of the BJP. He said the party is aiming to secure a decisive majority in the West Bengal Assembly, projecting a target of around 170 seats.
Highlighting the BJP’s vision for the state, Shah said the party seeks to transform West Bengal into “Shonar Bangla”, focusing on development and improved governance. He argued that several states governed by the BJP have shown significant progress and claimed that similar development could be achieved in West Bengal.
Referring to Mamata Banerjee’s earlier electoral contest in Nandigram, Shah said the BJP is determined to challenge her influence across the state, including Bhabanipur.
Earlier in the day, Shah joined a roadshow with BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who filed his nomination from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency. The rally moved through several parts of the area before concluding at the Survey Building, where the nomination papers were submitted.
Party leaders described the event as a show of strength in the Chief Minister’s political bastion as campaigning gathers pace in the constituency.
