PANAJI: Three Russians, including a mother-daughter duo, were rescued by lifesavers from drowning off Morjim beach on Tuesday evening.
The mother, aged 37 years and her eight-year-old daughter were swimming in the sea, when they drifted deeper into the water. Seeing them in distress, their friend, a 41-year-old Russian male, swam in their direction in order to assist their return to the shore, but he too was pulled deeper by the strong current.
It took the intervention of Drishti Marine lifesavers, Anand Parab and Ketan Nagvekar, who rushed to the trio’s rescue using a rescue board and jetski. The trio was safely brought ashore and allowed to go after their vitals were examined.
The incident occurred at a time when the state’s tourist season is picking up, with charter flights ferrying foreign tourists arriving regularly in Goa.
