PANAJI: Rohan Shah, a national of Nepal, was arrested by Panaji police yesterday morning following a multi-vehicle incident on the Old Mandovi Bridge.
Three scooter riders and pillion riders were hurt in the collision, which also caused a significant traffic bottleneck in Porvorim and Panaji during rush hour.
Preliminary investigations state that Shah lost control of his car while trying to pass another car because he was supposedly drunk. This caused the vehicle to collide head-on with oncoming traffic.
Babuso Kalangutkar, a Chapora resident who has also been charged by the police, is the owner of the car that was involved in the collision.
However, the police have not commented on the two accused people’s arrests.
Tourist-related drunk driving events are still on the rise in Goa, with many of them resulting in fatalities or serious injuries. The issue still exists and puts both residents and visitors in danger in spite of stringent legislation and continuous awareness initiatives.
