VERNA: In a tragic incident on late Tuesday night, a container truck accident claimed the life of its driver, Altaf Basheer (aged 45), a resident of Jijamata Chowk, Maharashtra. The incident occurred on the road leading from Markson Company to Lupin Company in IDC Verna at around 11:00 PM on Tuesday
According to Verna police, the container truck bearing registration number NL-01-AG-0420 was parked on the left side of the road when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered across the road, colliding with multiple vehicles parked on the right-hand side. Among the vehicles damaged were a Scorpio car (GA-06-F-8386) and two Eicher trucks (MH-48-CB-3350 and MP-09-GH-1020).
The container truck then plunged into a nearby valley, causing severe injuries to the driver. Emergency responders from the 108 Ambulance service rushed him to Hospicio Hospital, Margao, where he was declared brought dead.
The body has been preserved at the morgue for medico-legal formalities.
The Verna police, have registered a case of unnatural death under sections 194 of BNS and PSI Anand D. Gaonkar is carrying out further investigation under the supervision of PI Melson Colaco and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
