New Delhi: Drones were spotted again in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening, marking the third such incident in the past five days and prompting swift action from security forces. According to defence sources, the Army opened fire and activated counter unmanned aerial system measures after detecting aerial movement in sensitive border areas.
The first drone was observed in the Jammu sector, triggering an immediate response from ground forces deployed in the region. Shortly thereafter, another drone was sighted flying over the Degwar area in the Poonch sector. Both incidents were closely monitored, and standard counter measures were initiated to neutralise any potential threat.
Security agencies remain on high alert as drones have increasingly been used as a tool for cross border activities along the Line of Control. Heavy duty drones are often employed to drop supplies for terrorists operating on the Indian side, while smaller platforms have been used to transport weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment across the border. Such aerial intrusions pose a persistent challenge for border management and internal security.
In recent years, similar drone activity has also been recorded along the International Border in Punjab, where several drones carrying narcotics have been intercepted and shot down. These incidents highlight the expanding use of unmanned platforms for smuggling and hostile operations.
The renewed drone sightings come after a relatively calm period of several months following India’s Operation Sindoor in May 2025. That operation had led to heightened vigilance and a temporary reduction in aerial intrusions along the border. The latest developments suggest a possible resurgence of drone based attempts to test security preparedness.
Security forces continue to intensify surveillance and coordination to counter emerging threats. Advanced detection systems, night vision equipment, and electronic counter measures remain in active use across vulnerable sectors. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strong border security and preventing any infiltration or supply attempts through aerial means as the situation continues to be closely monitored.
