SALIGAO: In the early hours of Saturday, a 36-year-old Madhya Pradesh man was taken into custody on suspicion of having drugs valued at Rs 2.5 lakh close to the Saligao cemetery.
Rajaram Sitaram Banwasi was apprehended by a Saligao police team under the command of Police Sub-Inspector Dishan Naik for allegedly holding 2.533 kg of a greenish-colored leafy substance suspected of being ganja, valued at around Rs 2.5 lakh, during a raid near the graveyard at Saligao somewhere between 12 and 2.40 am.
According to Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the accused was taken into custody by Saligao Police.
The purpose of questioning accused Banwasi is to identify the source of the alleged narcotics.
The raid was conducted under the supervision of Police Inspector Somnath Mahajik and guidance of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Visvesh Karpe and North Superintendent of Police Akshat Kaushal.
