MAPUSA: Mapusa JMFC has convicted a good carrier driver and
imposed a sentence of five days of simple imprisonment and a monetary fine of Rs. 10,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The JMFC B Court, Mapusa, has rendered a conviction against Kishna Ram, the driver of a goods carrier truck, for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
On August 28, 2024, at approximately 11:23 PM, accused was apprehended by the Traffic Cell, Porvorim, near Teen Building Junction following a report of erratic driving.
Upon inspection, he exhibited clear signs of intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech, and unstable behavior.
A breathalyzer test revealed an alcohol concentration of 409.3 mg/100 ml, well above the permissible limit.
The Hon’ble Court has imposed a sentence of five days of simple imprisonment and a monetary fine of Rs. 10,000. In the event of non-payment of the fine, he will face an additional ten days of imprisonment.
This sentence is in accordance with Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which addresses driving under the influence.
