Calangute: Even as there is a ban on sale of gutka and other tobacco products across the State and the country, especially in wake of COVID19 pandemic, the sale of gutka an other products goes on unabated in Calangute.
The Calangute panahcyat had taken a resolution recently that the sale of tobacco products will not be allow in its jurisdiction but it seems like caution is thrown to the wind.
The vendors seem to have no fear of the authorities as the gutka is sold in the open right under the nose of the authorities.
goemkarponn.com clicked a picture of gutka sale just 200 meters from the village panchayat of Calangute and the members have no clue.
“We have received a complaint and we will act on it,” said new Calangute Sarpanch Dinesh Simerpurushkar.
He said the sale is not allowed in the jurisdiction o penchant and strict action will be taken.
Residents say the sale of gutka cannot be allowed in anyway as COVID19 could spread through spitting.
The ban on consumption of tobacco products such as gutka and pan masala has been tightened in Goa with the State Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) banning the products under the Food Safety Standards Act (FSSA), 2006. The Act came into force in 2011.
