POMBURPA: Villagers from Ecoxim, Pomburpa, and Olaulim met Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira, urging action against illegal constructions in eco-sensitive zones.
They submitted a memorandum demanding a reversal of the zone change in survey number 292-1-1, citing environmental damage and violations of the Regional Plan 2021.
MLA Ferreira assured full support, pledging to raise the issue with authorities and advocate in the High Court if needed.
He commended the villagers for their dedication to protecting their ancestral land and the village’s ecosystem.
Following a protracted campaign by the locals against Tehlani’s project in November of last year, the local panchayat issued an order to cease work.
The locals still believe that the government are ignoring their concerns, though, despite this little win.
The Pomburpa Biodiversity Management Committee Chairman, Alvito D’Souza, stressed the value of protecting the village’s abundant biodiversity.
He said that villagers goal is to preserve our territory for upcoming generations.
He remarked, “The Pomburpa Comunidade has voted unanimously to oppose any conversions in this environmentally vulnerable zone.
