PANAJI: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has demanded action against those who are demanding protection money from clubs & restaurant owners.
Lobo yesterday late night met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant over the issue.
“I met CM and told him that such type of incidents is happening in Calangute. I urged him to direct police to act strictly against such people,” said Lobo after meeting CM Sawant.
He further said that people should immediately call the police if they receive any such calls from people demanding protection money.
“I will not allow anyone to collect protection money from restaurant and hotel owners at Calangute. No one should pay money,” he added.
Lobo said that he would be filing an official complaint with the Calangute police station on the issue.
“This extortion racket is targeting the owners of some well-known and popular restaurants in my constituency; restaurant owners are threatened to pay protection money by some miscreants,” he added.
Lobo said that one of the stakeholders should give a written complaint, but they are currently scared.
The MLA also assured to stand by the business community; these miscreants should be taken to task: Michael Lobo.
CM speaking to the media, said that Lobo should not make vague allegations and should lodge a complaint or write to me naming these gangs.
“We are ready to arrest them. Those disturbing legal businesses will face action,” the CM said.
