NERUL: Three people were detained by the Porvorim Police on suspicion of operating a fraudulent call center out of a villa in Nerul.
The accused have been identified as Patel Perth (31), from Ahmedabad, Gujarat; Arjun Bakaraniya (26), from Ameri, Gujarat; and Subodh Sharma (43), from Andheri (East), Mumbai.
The accused were taken into custody, per the police, after a raid that took place at Fottawado, Nerul, late on May 13, 2024.
The defendants were purportedly caught red-handed participating in fraudulent activities at a fictitious call center, specifically targeting victims from other countries, particularly the United States of America.
They allegedly pretended to be representatives of Microsoft, an American multinational corporation, and offered technical support, antivirus software, and other services to the victims, charging them money for their use of laptops, cell phones, and other accessories.
