MAPUSA: In a strong push to uphold food safety and hygiene standards, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Goa, conducted a late-evening surveillance drive in Calangute and Mapusa.
The operation was spearheaded by Richard Noronha, Designated Officer (North Goa), along with Food Safety Officers Lenin De Sa, Sneha Gaude, Amit Mandrekar, and Sujata Sheygaonkar, under the guidance of the FDA Director.
During the intensive inspection, 13 food establishments were examined for compliance with hygiene and safety regulations. Of these, seven units—including two chicken shops at Housing Board, Mapusa—were ordered to shut down due to unhygienic food preparation conditions. Additionally, three establishments were fined for violating food safety norms.
The operation also uncovered instances of deceptive labelling. Several shops were found selling “Chocolate Analogue” products falsely labelled as “Chocolates.” The suppliers—M/s Nut Inn and M/s Krishna Foods—were directed to immediately withdraw the mislabelled stock and correct the packaging to ensure consumer awareness and product authenticity.
Reaffirming its commitment to public health, the FDA stated, “Our mission is clear—no compromise on food safety. We remain vigilant to uphold the highest standards for the health and trust of every Goan.”
The FDA has urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious food practices to the authorities
