PANAJI: The much-anticipated completion of the final stretch of the Ribandar-Patto Circle to Chimbel Junction road is set to mark a major milestone under the Smart Cities Mission.
This transformative project is not only improving road connectivity but also strengthening urban infrastructure, flood resilience and sewage management, ensuring a better quality of life for residents.
Spanning 815 meters, this road development project includes extensive drainage, sewerage, electrical and utility upgrades.
The drainage infrastructure upgrade includes refurbishment of 382 meters of existing drains and the construction of 433 meters of new drains to improve stormwater management.
The new drains vary in size, including 400mm x 450mm, 300mm x 300mm and 400mm x 300mm, ensuring efficient water flow and reducing the risk of waterlogging, particularly during heavy monsoons.
This enhancement is a key step toward building a flood-resilient urban environment.
This sewerage upgrade is also a crucial intervention to tackle previous challenges of inefficient waste disposal, which often resulted in sewage overflow and environmental hazards. The new upgraded system includes the completion of 815
meters of sewer pipeline, 19 manholes and 69 inspection chambers, ensuring efficient wastewater management.
Provision for a total of 69 house connections and 125 apartment connections have been made covering Raj Excellency, Sinari, Vastu and Chandradeep Apartments.
Additionally, an intermediate pumping station near Raj Excellency Apartments has been constructed, equipped with inlet/outlet chambers, a meter distribution panel, an automatic bar screen panel and pumps.
This facility pumps sewage over 800 meters up to the Ribandar second ferry point, significantly improving sewage disposal and urban sanitation.
Besides sewage and drainage enhancements, the piped natural gas (PNG) pipeline from Ribandar-Patto Circle to Chimbel Junction has been completed, providing residents with safe and reliable access to clean energy.
Furthermore, 350 meters of HT/LT underground electrical cables have been laid from Ribandar-Patto Circle to Chandradeep Apartments, along with the installation of substations, feeder pillars and mini service pillars.
These improvements will enhance power reliability, aesthetics and overall urban longevity by eliminating the clutter of overhead cables and ensuring low maintenance and better load management.
