PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council( PMC) has decided to repair and renovate its Mukthi Dham Crematorium located at Varkhandem, giving a new look to it, which was lying in dilapidated condition due to lack of proper maintenance for a long time.
Troubled with the deteriorating and pathetic condition of the Ponda Municipalities’ Crematorium, locals in Ponda Taluka demanded to renovate the Crematorium with essential facilities.
As not all the Panchayats in Taluka are fully equipped with Crematoriums, the taluka locals, including migrants, depend upon PMC Crematorium for final rites. The Crematorium was constructed around three decades back.
The entire structure of the Crematorium has become weak, including the roof.
Chairperson Ritesh Naik addressing to media said considering the growing demand, PMC has decided to carry out repair and renovation work on the entire Crematorium. He said Rs 1.19 Crore has been floated for the work and all facilities will be provided, including Parking.
