BICHOLIM: Bicholim Police have registered an offence against 11 persons and others following allegations of wrongful confinement, intimidation and obstruction of official duties during a meeting at the Karapur-Sarvan Village Panchayat office.
According to police, the complaint was lodged by Bibi Ayesha Magod, acting Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch of the Karapur-Sarvan Village Panchayat, on May 12 at around 10.55 pm.
Police said the incident occurred earlier in the day during a meeting held in the chamber of the Panchayat Secretary regarding the ongoing Lodha project at Sarvan village.
The complainant alleged that the accused persons — identified as Siddhesh Jana Tari, Ujwala Kavlekar, Neeta Morajkar, Manjita Chandelkar, Sanjivani Gaonkar, Chitra Nansekar, Mina Ghadi, Pritesh Salgaonkar, Abdul Rahim Mulla, Savlo Kavlekar and Reema Gaonkar, along with others — visited the Panchayat office to question her regarding the proposed issuance of a show cause notice to the project.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly formed an unlawful assembly inside the Panchayat Secretary’s chamber, aggressively confronted the complainant and wrongfully confined her within the office premises.
The complainant further alleged that the group pressured her either to sign the show cause notice against the project or resign from her post as acting Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch. She stated that despite informing them that she lacked independent authority to sign the notice and would seek guidance from the Deputy Director of Panchayat, the accused allegedly continued to restrain and obstruct her from performing her official duties.
Police said the complainant also alleged that accused Siddhesh Jana Tari and Abdul Rahim Mulla were seen instigating the unlawful assembly. The accused persons allegedly criminally intimidated her and created an atmosphere of fear inside the Panchayat office.
Based on the complaint, police registered Crime No. 61/2026 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to unlawful assembly, wrongful confinement, obstruction of public servant duties and criminal intimidation.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Viraj Dhauskar.
