VALPOI: Noted Goan artist Rajdeep Naik has landed in legal trouble after Valpoi Police Station registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him over an alleged objectionable remark concerning residents of Sattari.
As per police sources, Naik is accused of referring to people from the Sattari region as “cattle,” a statement that reportedly triggered strong resentment among locals. Following the alleged comment, residents approached the police demanding action.
Acting on the complaint, Valpoi police registered a case against the artist under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The sections invoked include 196(1)(a) for promoting enmity between groups, Section 352 for intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace, and Section 353(2) pertaining to public mischief and spreading rumours.
Police have begun further inquiry into the matter. The investigation is being handled by LPSI Sanisha Naik. More details are awaited as the probe continues.
