VALPOI: On July 23, the flash floods in Sattari taluka. Has left a trail of devastation even as the authorities are working on war footing to bring back normalcy.
However, it is an uphill task to restore the collapsed houses. People have lost their livelihood, their lifetime earnings, savings, etc.
Savaikar family in Advai, which has been hit severely by floods, has alleged that this is a man-made disaster.
Union Minister Shripad Naik and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane inspected the completely demolished house of Sawaikar at Advai, Sattari, this morning.
The family alleged that the current situation was due to the construction of the dam at Ganje.
Union Minister Shripad Naik assured the family to inquire into the matter and assured compensation.
The floods have wreaked havoc in Sattari as hundreds of cattle were killed, houses damaged, agriculture losses.
Will the government learn from mistakes?
The government is building a dam spending Rs 100 cr for which the water from the dam was blocked.
“This has led to an increase in the water level in the reservoir and created the current situation in Sattari taluka. The government needed to address this,” the Sawaikar brothers said.
They said the family has faced losses in lakhs and demanded that the government formulate a policy for the flood victims and make the compensation available immediately.
Guidelines will help online – Shripad Naik.
Union Minister Shripad Naik, speaking to reporters, said that the government has guidelines in providing financial assistance to the victims. “However, flood victims cannot get satisfactory help through these guidelines. I will talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and try to get a special package for flood victims in Goa,” he stated.
