NAVELIM: AAP’s Siddesh Bhagat said that concerned citizens and sports enthusiasts of Salcete, wish to express our strong feelings regarding the recent upcoming decision by the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) to allow the Navelim Late Manohar Parrikar Stadium to be used for weddings and exhibitions.
“While we understand the need for versatile spaces, we believe that the primary focus of this stadium should be on promoting sports and providing facilities for our youth. Salcete currently lacks a full-fledged indoor stadium, and it is crucial to invest in our sports infrastructure to keep our young people engaged in healthy activities and away from negative influences, such as drugs,” said Bhagat
He further said that instead of repurposing the stadium for events like weddings, we urge the government to prioritize upgrading the facility.
“This includes installing a proper air conditioning system and fans, as many MLAs have pointed out during Assembly sessions,” he added
Bhagat said that a well-equipped stadium will not only benefit athletes but will also encourage more youth participation in sports.
“We call upon the government to reconsider this decision and focus on creating a supportive environment for our athletes and sports enthusiasts. Let us invest in our future by promoting sports and providing the necessary facilities for our youth,” he added
