MAPUSA: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carried out a raid at the Mapusa bus stand confiscating food items valued at about Rs 1 lakh.
The interstate bus stand area was the focus of the operation, where a number of food items—including spices, goat milk, and biscuits—were seized due to improper labeling.
According to an FDA official, the purpose of this operation was to ensure that entrepreneurs bringing food goods into Goa from other states were complying with food safety standards. This was part of an ongoing enforcement drive.
The official said, “As part of our efforts to enforce strict adherence to food safety standards, this was our eighth visit to the Mapusa bus stand.”
A thorough investigation is currently in progress, and the seized materials have been placed under custody. To ascertain the degree of non-compliance and any possible health hazards, the FDA intends to closely examine the products that were seized. The official went on, “We will carry out a comprehensive investigation and take appropriate action based on our findings.”
“The FDA is committed to enforcing food safety standards. If there is a repeat offence, we will impose fines or file legal cases against the offenders,” the official stated.
