BELAGAVI: In a shocking incident that unfolded early today on Khade Bazaar Road in Belagavi, former Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamlatdar lost his life following an altercation with an auto driver.
CCTV footage released by police showed an auto driver slapping Mamlatdar multiple times.
The incident occurred between 1:00 and 1:30 AM, according to Belagavi DCP L&O Rohan Jagdish.
Jagdish informed Goemkarponn that the altercation began when Mamlatdar’s car was involved in an accident with an auto driven by Mujaheed.
The situation escalated when Mujaheed slapped Mamlatdar on the cheek.
After the incident, Mamlatdar attempted to climb the stairs to his lodge but collapsed in the reception area. He was immediately taken to a civil hospital, where various tests, including an ECG, were conducted. Unfortunately, he was declared dead.
Mujaheed, the auto driver, has been arrested by the Khade Bazaar Police and is currently under interrogation. The police have registered a case of murder against him at the Khade Bazaar Police Station. An MLC (Medico-Legal Certificate) has been generated, and the investigation is ongoing.
Mamlatdar’s family, who were en route from Goa, are expected to arrive soon in Goa.
The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation.
