PANAJI: In connection with the investigation, the Goa Police’s Economic Offences Cell (EOC) discovered gold ornaments valued at about Rs 3 crore in the lockers of Myron Rodrigues and his associates, who are accused of committing an investment scam at a private bank.
Police say the EOC Police Station in Panjim searched three bank vaults after obtaining a search warrant from the JMFC ‘C’ Court in Margao.
On Thursday, December 5, the EOC investigated three bank lockers in the Fatorda branch of a private bank: one used by Myron’s wife and co-accused Deepali Parab; another used jointly by Myron and his ex-wife Sunita Rodrigues; and a third locker used jointly by Myron and Deepali.
According to the police, during the search, they discovered 4.125 kg of gold ornaments valued at nearly Rs 3 cr, the original gold receipts that Myron Rodrigues and Deepali Parab had bought, the sale deed and title documents of a villa in Salcete that Myron had bought, and records pertaining to a home loan that he had taken out.
Myron Rodirgues, his wife Deepali, and five other people were charged by the EOC in November of this year for allegedly defrauding about 50 investors out of about Rs 100 crore.
According to a lawsuit filed by Ivon Suresh Joaquim Almeida of Navelim, the pair defrauded him of Rs 36,54,336 under the guise of investing his funds in the stock market.
