PANAJI: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, has fallen victim to a cyber attack. An unknown fraudster created a fake WhatsApp ID using his name and photo and started demanding money.
As soon as Tawadkar found out that a fake Facebook account had been created using his name and photo, and that the fraudster was using whatsapp to demand money, he immediately reported the matter to the cyber police. Speaker Tawadkar has urged everyone not to fall for this scam.
“I am to Lodge the complaint against the culprit who using my fake ID and keeping my photo as DP on whatsapp and trying to grab money by defaming my name in the society & calling all the MI.A of Goa for asking money on behalf of me on whatsapp,” said Tawadkar in his compliant to police
“I am to inform you that, I have never ask the money to anyone of the MLA of Goa nor I required for the same. I hereby intimate to you that immediately action to be initiated on the top priority,” he said
Parents are complaining to the state Cyber Police station these days about calls they are receiving stating their child has been abducted or is in police custody and that the caller is requesting money to release their child. “Cyber/virtual kidnapping” is the term used to describe this kind of swindle, according to a statement released by SP Rahul Gupta.
Parents should follow these steps to prevent falling into the trap, as well as the details of the criminals’ method of operation, which have been provided by the Cyber Crime Cell.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has urged the public to stay vigilant, not to panic, and to call the police right away.
