PANAJI: Arshad Desai and Ashwin Narsinghani advanced to the semi-finals of the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2023 defeating their respective rivals in the ongoing tennis tournament at the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias and Panjim Gymkhana courts.
Ashwin beat Sonu Todu (4-1, 4-0), while Arshad beat Rahul Singh (2-4, 4-1, 10-4) in a three mini-set match in the quarter-finals of the men’s singles category. Kafil Kadvekar also beats Ankit Batheja (4-1, 4-3, 7-4) to advance to the semi-finals.
In the boys’ under-12 years category, Alec Barretto beat Aryan Naik (6-2), Ethan beat Isaac (6-1), Shaurya beat Aran K (6-0), Kyan M beat Devansh C (6-1), Arhan G beat Abhijay (6-1), Ishaan beat Vivaan Adichwal (6-1), Noah beat Sairaj (6-0), Harshit beat Devansh Naik (6-1), and Vivaan Agrawal beat Avanish P (6-1).
In the matches played in the boys’ under-16 years category, Uttam beat Samik (6-0), Akshobhya beat Gaurang N (6-1), Darsh beat Taroun (6-1), Atharv D beat Vivaan V (6-0), Samarth beat Dhruv (6-3), Krishna beat Rishik (6-0), Siddesh beat Milin (6-0), Arhan Inamdaar beat Gauraang (6-2), Sankalp beat Niranth (6-0), and Krishna beat Rishik (6-0).
Kimberly beat Lucy (6-3), Tvisha beat Swara (6-4), and Gargi beat Ahana (6-1) in the girl’s under-12 category, while in the girl’s under-16 category, Tanvi beat Bhavya (6-0), Mishita beat Vidhi (6-0), and Tithee beat Altiya (6-0).
In the mixed doubles events in the open category, Sanket/ Rutuja beat Prithvi/ Atika (6-2), Prapti/Kafil beat Simi/Swapnil (6-0), Sonu/Ahana beat Anup/Tvisha (6-1), Arshad/Aishwarya beat Bharat/Deeksha (6-0), Harshvardhan/ Nidhi beat Shiva/ Aishwarya (6-3) Nagesh/Neha beat Dunston/Lara (6-0), and Mika/Simran beat Sankalp/Ritika (7-5).
While in the men’s singles category, Nagesh beat Vedang (6-4) and Ravindra beat Nagesh (6-1), in the men’s doubles event, Nilesh/Arshad beat Sharad/Prathamesh (6-1), and Sarthak/Rahul beat Sudhanshu/Vedang (6-3).
A record number of participants had registered across various categories for the 8th edition of the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2023. In all, 386 tennis players had registered for the event, out of which 199 had registered under the veteran’s category, while 187 players had registered for the open category.
