PANAJI: Despite losing the finals in the veteran’s mixed doubles category, Prithvi Naik advanced in the men’s singles and doubles events in the open category at the ongoing Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2023 tennis tournament in the state, while Omkar Islampure also defeated his rivals in men’s singles and doubles events at the state’s premier tennis event.
The Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2023 open category matches, which got underway, saw Prithvi beat Dhruv (6-4), while Omkar also defeated Vivek Pais (6-4) in the men’s singles category.
In other matches held in the same category, Vikrant beat Joshua (6-0), Ratnav beat Brian (7-5), Tanay beat Rohan (6-2), Ravindra K beat Sravan D (6-0), Pranav beat David (6-0), Saifraj Hakim beat Gautam K (6-4), Sameer beat Rajesh Bundela (6-0), Hrushmayi beat Anup (6-1), Sudhanshu beat Eugene (6-2), Vedang beat Cavel (6-0), Sarthak beat Anant (6-1), Santosh G beat Sundaresan (6-1), Saifraj Hakim beat Shreyas (6-3), and Aman Shetty beat Jason (6-1).
In another batch of men’s singles matches, Gordon Lewis beat Pranav Desurkar (7-6), Ratna V beat Tanay Amonkar (6-4), Ravindra Kadam beat Kshitij Garg (6-1), Prithvi Naik beat Hrushmayi Byali (6-0), Siddhant Pillai beat Swapnil Bugde (6-0), Prathamesh Patil beat Pranab Meherishi (6-2), Suraj A. beat Rakesh M. (6-3), and Ratna V. beat Gordon Lewis (6-2).
In the men’s doubles event, Anurag/Chinmay beat Swapnil/Kapil (6-4), Laxman/Sameer beat Prabal/Sravan (6-1), Pranab/Aman beat Sachin/Arup (6-1), Omkar/Aditya beat Vivek/Pranav (6-1), Ankit/Manal beat Nitesh/Rohan (6-0), Mika/Aman beat Mackelroy/Sanket (6-1), and Aman Shetty/Pranab Meherishi beat Laxman Iyer/Sameer Kakodkar (6-1).
The matches are held at the Clube de Gaspar Dias venue in Miramar and the Panjim Gymkhana in Campal.
A record number of participants had registered across various categories for the 8th edition of the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2023. In all, 386 tennis players had registered for the event, out of which 199 had registered under the veteran’s category, while 187 players had registered for the open category.
