PANAJI: A day after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that ivermectin had been dropped from the list of medicines used in the treatment of Covid-19, Goa Medical College (GMC,) Dean today said that ivermectin is still being used for the treatment.
“Ivermectin is still being used and has not been removed from the list of medicines used in treatment of Covid-19,” said GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar.
Dr Pramod Sawant had informed that he had dropped the proposal to purchase Ivermectin for prophylaxis or Covid treatment after Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) decided to drop the drug from treatment.
He said that government had earlier purchased the drug, which was made available to the patients in the home isolation kit as the same was approved by ICMR earlier.
On the other side, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the state doesn’t follow everything that the World Health Organization (WHO) says.
“We don’t follow everything that the WHO follows and that they were still using Remdesvir for the treatment of Covid-19,” he said
WHO had issued a conditional recommendation against the use of Remdesivir in hospitalized patients, regardless of disease severity, as there is currently no evidence that Remdesivir improves survival in COVID19 patients.
