PANAJI: AICC leader Girish Chodankar on Thursday said that the political atmosphere in Goa is becoming increasingly hostile towards activists and citizens questioning those in power, while extending his support to activist Swapnesh Sherlekar.
Reacting to police complaints filed against Sherlekar, Chodankar alleged that attempts are being made to silence voices speaking against corruption, intimidation and misuse of power.
“Today they are filing police complaints against activists like Swapnesh Sherlekar for questioning those in power. Tomorrow they will try to silence every Goan who speaks against corruption, intimidation and misuse of power,” Chodankar stated.
He further said that the 2027 Goa Assembly elections would be about more than politics and power.
“Goa 2027 will not just be an election. It will be a fight to protect democracy, free speech and the right of every citizen to question the government without fear,” he added.
Chodankar also reaffirmed his support for Sherlekar and those raising public issues, stating that democratic voices must not be suppressed through fear or pressure.
The statement comes amid growing political reactions over recent complaints and actions involving activists and outspoken citizens in Goa.
