“Government’s aim is to produce pollution-free energy by the year 2030, thus cutting down on traditional electricity by 50 per cent. This will reduce the stress on demand for traditional electricity and will save on bills,” said Dhavalikar.
He further said that Goa aims to generate 150 MW of solar power and that the government is considering underground power lines.
“Generation of pollution-free green electricity is now the government’s goal. He said that the country is developing rapidly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he added.
The power minister appealed to the farmers to take advantage of the solar pump scheme.
“Goa produces only 50 megawatts against the demand of 750 megawatts. The State has to depend on other states to fulfil the rest of the demand,” said Dhavalikar.
Dhavalikar disclosed that work on generating an estimated 354 mW of renewable energy through nine projects is presently underway, and the projects are expected to be commissioned over the next five years.
He also said that the anticipated generation of non-conventional electricity through the ongoing projects is 72 million units this year, followed by 358.5 million units, 503.5 million units, 669.5 million units and 707 million units, respectively in 2023-24, 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2026-27.
Minister added that future generation of green energy is subject to the probable date of commissioning of the projects.
