PONDA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, speaking at the sixth convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa, reiterated his commitment to finalizing a permanent location for the institute’s campus. The convocation, held at the temporary campus in Farmagudi shared with Goa Engineering College, marked nearly a decade of IIT Goa’s presence in the state.
“A permanent and spacious campus for IIT Goa will be finalized soon,” said Sawant, addressing the gathering of graduates, faculty, and dignitaries. He called upon the outgoing students to cherish their memories of Goa and contribute to the state’s development wherever their professional journeys may take them.
Highlighting the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship, the chief minister encouraged graduates to aim at creating employment opportunities instead of solely seeking jobs. He also paid tribute to the late Manohar Parrikar, former Goa chief minister and an IIT alumnus, citing his lasting contributions to engineering, Goa, and the nation.
The ceremony saw 174 students receiving degrees in BSc Tech, MTech, and PhD programs. Among those present were IIT Goa Director Dr. S K Dhiren Sikatty, Chairman of the Board of Governors Adil Siraj Zainulbhai, and several Senate members.
Reflecting on his own student life, Sawant shared anecdotes from his college days in Kolhapur, emphasizing the enduring bond of campus memories and urging IIT Goa alumni to stay connected with the state.
