PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today has warned for heavy fines fand confiscation of vehicles for roadside garbage dumping while instructing police impose fines and enforce strict measures.
CM Sawant was addressing the Swachhta Hi Seva program via Video conferencing.
“Government will impose heavy fines and confiscation of vehicles for roadside garbage dumping, instructs police to impose fines and enforce strict measures. I also urge citizens urged to click photos of offenders,” said Sawant
He further said that contractors collecting garbage from hotels and industries must register the waste they collect and its disposal location through Panchayat or Solid Waste Management to enable government monitoring of waste.
“Strict action will be taken if industrial waste is found. Panchayat should dedicate a day until Oct 2 to collect all kinds of waste and sell it for scrap, with proceeds going to garbage collection staff welfare,” said Sawant
Chief Minister said the government plans to relocate scrapyards, which are currently spread haphazardly across the state, to designated locations outside residential areas.
However, he noted that the relocation process may take over a year. The registration process will begin within 15 days.
Sawant also warned that the permits of rickshaws and trucks found dumping garbage illegally will be cancelled for a year.
