CANACONA: Highlighting lack of medical facilities and the medical fraternity’s lukewarm approach towards providing medical facilities, Congress leadership led a scathing attack on the lacklustre functioning of Canacona’s only government hospital Community Health Centre (CHC)/
On Thursday, The Mahila Congress President Mrs. Beena S Naik, Jawahar Bal Manch –Goa President Pelajia J Pires, the State JBM Co-ordinators Adv. Gerson, Mrs Geraldine Carr, Mrs Savita Yadav, Mrs Plaza Cardozo along with the Canacona Congress & South District Congress Gen. Secretary (Org) Gasper Coutinho met and submitted a Memorandum to the Canacona Community Health Centre Health Officer Dr. Jose Tavares.
It is called upon the Canacona Community Health Centre Health Officer Dr. Jose Tavares, to strongly express the Canacona people’s grievances for the last five years where the Medical fraternity’s lukewarm approach to essential medical facilities had been bereft of the needs of the people. The JBM Chairperson Mrs Pelajia J. Pires, highlighted the urgent need to provide a separate ward for Children and not along with the women’s ward and 24×7 availability of a Children’s doctor in the Health Centre instead of once-a-week medical care.
She also questioned whether children fall sick with Malaria and dengue, or meet with an accident or come down with medical problems only on the day of the doctor’s visit. How and what type of health services do we think we are giving to the children and the people of Canacona in general, especially those living in the far-off areas and should they be given third-rate attention? She also pointed out the lack of facilities for various other OPDs which should be available such as proper working of the X-ray department and the Ultrasound department functioning on the whims and fancies of some of the staff.
Adding to the long list of grievances of Canaocna people Congress Mahila President Mrs. Beena Naik questioned the Medical officer as to the lack of IV facilities for every bed and why a gynaecologist is not there for 24×7.
Congress (South) District General Secretary (Org) Gasper Coutinho was vociferous in pointing out the long-standing demands of Canconkars as to why the people had to go through the trauma of neglect by the Government without providing any solution. He informed me that in the last four years, this is the sixth petition he has made to improve and provide proper medical facilities for the people of Canacona. Coutinho very strongly requested to understand the state of the ST Community people, many of whom for over a decade are prone to kidney problems and Dialysis facilities to be rendered to the best possible state. He also requested for immediate deployment of Pilot ambulance service in the remote interiors where roads are bad and inaccessible for 108 ambulances.
Concluding congress leaders’ tryst with the Community Health Centre in the Press addresses, the JBM Chairperson opined to respect the children who are tomorrow’s future and said in the interest of the Canacona people the Government should upgrade the health Centre to a full-fledged Hospital.
JBM State Co-ordinator Adv. Gerson D’Souza spoke on the occasion. Mrs. Savita Yadav (ChicalimJBM) and Mrs. Geraldine Carr (Cumbharjua JBM), Mrs. Plaza Cardozo (Canacona JBM), South Goa District Congress Committee Secretary Remy Dias, Mrs. Ursila Costa Canacona Mahila block president were present along with a large gathering of Canacona Congress workers.
