CANACONA: Stating illegal digging is going on at Karmlaghat, Congress in Canacona objected to the same, saying it will further aggravate the already treacherous and dangerous accident-prone zone on NH-66 road in Canacona.
“On one side, Collectors of both districts are issuing notification not to dig roads during the monsoon as it creates obstacles for smooth flow of vehicular traffic/cause accidents during the monsoon. But we think these notifications are issued only as a routine formality and not for implementations as digging work on the road/side of the road is still going on unabated in rains also.’, pointed out Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Sr. Vice President Vaishanav Pednekar.
Canacona Congress Parivar & Youth Congress members have today rushed to the Karmal Ghat area where allegedly illegal cabling work has been going on. Congress inquiring with the workers, realised there is no permission to carry on the work and inspite of any permission, the work of digging alongside the road has been going for laying cables and that too at this time of the year.
“Our Karmal Ghat is already famous for accidents, and people are satirically calling it “Death Ghat” due to the number of accidents and deaths in such road accidents. Due to faulty road shouldering work, many accidents have occurred on Karmal Ghat. Drivers of four-wheelers/trucks/heavy vehicles need to take extra caution while driving due to sloppy road shoulders. Now on another side, big pits/holes are dug for cable laying, making it difficult for drivers to drive in the rainy season.
Haphazardly Digging pits/holes in dangerous Karmal Ghat in the rainy season further makes this stretch accident-prone/dangerous for transportation. It is nothing like playing with the lives of commuters.
“We warn the government authorities to strictly obey the orders of District Collectors and don’t allow such dangerous work for the safety of people/vehicles travelling through Karmal Ghat. If such dangerous activities are allowed illegally, we will take further steps to protect the lives of innocent people who travel through Karmal Ghat.
Newly appointed GPCC General Secretary Gaspar Coutinho, and Vishal Pagi, were also present amongst some of the congressmen who inspected the Garmalghat.
