CANACNA: Canacona Excise team have detained a Karnataka bound Fish Container (KA-47 A-4476) illegally transporting 225 boxes of different liquor brands worth Rs.5.88 Lakhs at Polem border Checkpost in Canacona on Wednesday night.
The illegal liquor consignments consisting of 225 liquor boxes of three (3) different brands of Mansion House Brandy(125 boxes), Royal Whiskey (50 boxes) and Honeygrade Brandy (50) were concealed in the Fish container hiding the boxes behind ice-filled Fish Boxes.
According Supdt of Excise (Canacona) Shamba Naik, the excise team at Polem Checkpost stopped the Fish container heading towards Karwar for normal check at about 8 pm on Wednesday night, and found something suspicious with the ice-filled Fish Crates neatly arranged/placed in the Container, as the fish container is supposed to head back after emptying the Fish consignment it brought into the State.
A thorough check found, that the beyond the 2-3 rows of Ice-filled Fish boxes, Liquor Boxes are neatly placed inside the entire Container, in all together 225 boxes.
Driver of the Vehicle Mallikarjun Hiremath, native of Bijapur is taken under custody and the Fish Container is detained at the Polem Checkpost.
According to Supdt of Excise Naik, on preliminary interrogation of the Driver, the illegal liquor consignment laden Fish Container was given to him at Balli, and the driver was asked to deliver the Container upto Ankola. Some other person was supposed come to control of the vehicle to some unknow spot. ‘So at present it is not known as to where this huge consignment of liquor was heading to . As one of liquor brand is from outside Goa, two other brands are manufactured in Goa itself, but we we are investigating the sources and its destination. The entire investigation is being conducted under the direct supervision and leadership of Goa Excise Commissioner Smt Anjana Mishra. Further investigation will also be conducted accordingly.’
