PANAJI: Goa Konkani Akademi has announced a major initiative to document and preserve the legacy of personalities who have contributed to the growth and promotion of the Konkani language and culture.
The Akademi will compile a comprehensive encyclopedia titled “Konkani Bhasha Sahitya Shilpkar Kosh”, aimed at creating an official record of individuals who played a significant role in shaping the Konkani movement and literary-cultural landscape.
According to the Akademi, the project seeks to preserve the history of Konkani language and culture while introducing future generations to pioneers, activists, writers, artists and researchers associated with the language.
The encyclopedia will include contributions from various fields including the Konkani language movement, literature, theatre, tiatr, cinema, folk art, music, education, journalism, research and digital media.
The Akademi has invited information on freedom fighters and activists linked to the Konkani movement, writers across all Konkani dialects, playwrights, directors, tiatrists, musicians, dancers, folk artists, linguists, teachers, professors, researchers and media professionals working in print, television, radio and digital platforms.
Contributors have been asked to submit details including personal information, educational background, published works, social contributions, awards and a passport-sized photograph.
The information must be submitted in Konkani using Devanagari script with Unicode-Inscript typing in a Word file format within a limit of 500 words.
Goa Konkani Akademi has also appealed to families and acquaintances of deceased Konkani pioneers to submit relevant details to ensure their contributions are officially documented.
The Akademi stated that a special expert committee will oversee the encyclopedia project, which it described as a major effort to create a lasting document of Konkani identity and heritage.
