SOCCORO: In a significant bust, Goa Police arrested three individuals involved in an online betting operation during the IPL cricket match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The incident took place between 9:55 PM on April 10, 2025, and 12:30 AM on April 11, 2025, at Villa No. 29, Sun Escora Residential Complex, Socorro, Bardez, Goa. Police Sub Inspector Sitaram Malik of Porvorim Police Station lodged the state complaint, stating that the accused were caught red-handed accepting bets through mobile phones and online platforms.
The arrested individuals were identified as Vijay Kumar Manwani (45), a resident of Rewa, Madhya Pradesh; Musa Shaikh (29), from Murshidabad, West Bengal; and Sudesh Kumar Otwani (25), also from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. Police seized seven mobile phones, one laptop, and various accessories from their possession, with an estimated total value of ₹2.1 lakh.
The accused have been charged under the Goa, Daman, and Diu Public Gambling Act. The police are currently investigating the scope of the betting network and whether more individuals are involved in the illegal activity. This arrest underscores the efforts of Goa Police to clamp down on online gambling, especially during high-profile sporting events such as the IPL.
