Panaji: In a pioneering move to enhance cyber safety, Goa Police has launched an advanced messaging initiative using Rich Communication Services (RCS) to deliver cyber awareness content directly to citizens’ mobile phones. The initiative, developed and executed by the AI-ML Lab of Goa Police, positions the state as one of the first in India to adopt RCS messaging for cybercrime outreach.
RCS is a next-generation messaging protocol that enables visually rich, interactive messages within the phone’s default messaging app. Unlike traditional SMS, RCS allows for features like verified sender IDs, action buttons, embedded media, and branded content. The first wave of awareness messages created by the AI-ML Lab focuses on emerging cyber fraud tactics, including fake police video calls linked to “digital arrest” scams and fraudulent investment platforms involving cryptocurrency and stock trading.
Each message includes direct action buttons such as links to the national cybercrime portal (cybercrime.gov.in) and the 24×7 helpline number 1930, making it easier for recipients to report incidents immediately. The system is also designed with SMS fallback to ensure accessibility across all types of mobile devices.
The AI-ML Lab, launched in February 2025 in collaboration with Samruddh Bharat Technologies, is playing a key role in modernizing Goa Police’s digital capabilities. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious messages or calls without delay.
Goa Police continues to lead in the use of technology for public safety and cybercrime prevention
